Hutsell was born on July 30, 1923 to the late Myrtle (Murr) and Hobart H. Hutsell in Cushing, OK. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1940 and attended North Oklahoma Junior College, entering the Civilian Pilot program, graduating in May of 1942. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was called to active duty in November of 1942. Harley received his pilot's wings and commission in October of 1943. While in the Air Corps, he flew 34 Combat Missions, including bombing the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in preparation for the liberation of Europe. He was with the 8th Air Force in the European Theatre, flying his beloved B-17 Flying Fortress. Upon his return from active service, Harley was united in marriage to Addie Turley who bore him four children. In February of 1948 he went to work for Cain's Coffee Company and retired as Executive Vice President in October of 1988. During his career he was President of Sales and Marketing of Oklahoma City for two terms, President of Kansas Restaurant Purveyors Association and a member of Young Men's Club. In addition to his parents, his first wife and one son, Jeffrey, preceded Harley in death. He's survived by the love of his life, Nelda, married 31 years, son Michael Hutsell and his wife Susan and their children Andy and Elizabeth of Arlington, VA, son Alan Hutsell and his wife Deena and their children Casey and Kelly of Prairie Village, KS, daughter Connie Handley and her daughter Lauren of Oakland, CA. Harley is also survived by his step-son, Keith Watson and his wife Suzanne and their children Brett Watson and Brian Watson and his wife Amber; step-daughter, Tracy Tate and her husband Alan and their children, Jeremy West and his wife Tiffany and their son Tristan, Jesse West and his wife Lindsey, and Jamie Tate; step- daughter, Kerri Nichols and her husband Dan and their children Korri, Kaitlin, and Jaxon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2005 in the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Nancy Bridges of Good Shepherd Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the Hutsell family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Lung Association in Harley's name. Services are under the direction of the Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, OK.
