All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Healy, James "Father Gus" 1923 - 2005 James "Father Gus" Healy, 82, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, in Crowley. Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Village in Crowley and 7 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2920 Azle Ave., Fort Worth and 10 a.m. Wednesday in Dallas at St. Mary of Carmel Catholic Church, 2900 Vilbig Road. Interment: Marylake Cemetery, Little Rock, Ark. Visitation: 5 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Village. James Healy was born July 20, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Peter and Mary Healy. James entered the seminary in Oklahoma City in 1940 and received the Discalced Carmelite habit in San Antonio Sept. 26, 1941, when he took the name of Augustine of the Sorrowful Mother. Father Gus made his profession of vows Sept. 27, 1942, and went on to study theology in Oklahoma City. Ordained June 4, 1949, his first assignment was in the parish in Hartshorne, Okla. He also served in San Antonio and Pearsall. In 1972, he went to Oklahoma City, remaining there until 1975, when he went to Dallas, serving at the The Cathedral and St. Mary of Carmel. In 1995, he moved to St. Francis Village in Crowley, where he lived the remainder of his life. Father Gus was an avid outdoorsman who loved being out in the woods and enjoyed deer hunting with his buddies. In the last few months, Father Gus spoke of going out to the woods, but as he got weaker he knew it was just a wish. He considered himself a cancer survivor. In his last few letters he wrote how much he needed prayers and how much prayer helped him. The Discalced Carmelite friars and nuns thank you for you love and kindnesses extended to Father Gus during his life. Our prayers are with you. Survivors: Sister, Sister Mary Healy; and four nieces of Kansas. Published in the Star-Telegram on 9/4/2005. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Oklahoma County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/oklahoma/oklahoma.html
