He was born in Muskogee Oklahoma, on October 18, 1925. Denver was raised in the Sand Springs Children's Home in Sand Springs, OK where he attended high school and was captain of the basketball team. After graduating from high school, he went to Okla. A&M, and after his freshman year, he joined the Army Air Corp & became a tail gunner on a B-17 Bomber. Denver's plane was shot down in late 1943 over Germany, and he was taken as a Prisoner Of War until being liberated in 1944. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, American Theater, European Campaign, Air Medal, Victory Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Returning home from the war, Denver married his childhood sweetheart, Ova Marie Melson, who was also raised in the Sand Springs Children's Home. They had four children, and were married for 56 years until her death in 2002. Denver continued to serve his country working for Civil Service and retiring from the U.S Postal Service in 1985. Denver & Marie located in the beautiful hills of Tahlequah, OK where they lived until 1999 when they relocated near their daughter's in Hawkins, TX. Will Rogers said he never met a man he didn't like, and we believe it can be said about Denver Holton that there never was a man that met dad that didn't like him. Enjoy Heaven Dad; but know you will, truly be missed. We Love You. Denver was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Jenny Holton; wife, Ova Marie; daughter, Carol Suzanne Holton Raffa; brothers, Robert Scott Lephew & James Roscoe Lephew; and son in-law, Keith King. He is survived by two sisters, Katie Sexton of Broken Arrow & Alice Hellen & husband, Peter Ruderman of Ontario, Canada; son, James & wife, Anna Holton of Choctaw; daughters, Lynette Lawrence of Big Sandy, TX & Jeanette King of Hawkins, TX; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, in the Chapel of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home with interment to follow at Kolb Cemetery. Barnes & Johnson F.H. 1820 S.
