William was born January 4, 1916 to Sidney Cecil and Zuma (Hartfield) Holmes in Kansas. He became a Christian at the age of 9, and during his life he served as a deacon at Putnam City Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Superintendent at Springdale Baptist Church and at the time of his death had been attending Sooner Baptist Church in MWC. He married V. Lizetta Carnahan on June 7, 1936, the only girl he ever dated. They were married 64 1/2 years until the time of her death. He served 7 years in the National Guard and 3 years in the Army during WWII. William was a Postal Clerk for the U.S.P.S. He retired from the OKC Post Office NW Station after 34 1/2 years of service. After retirement from the postal service he and his wife owned and operated Zetta's Ceramics. He helped his daughter operate 'Remember Me Craft and Antique Mall'. He was the cashier and was very much a people person. During his life he invented and received patents on several inventions, and has copyrighted several songs and stories. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and being outdoors. He is survived by 1 daughter: Wiletta Robinson of Choctaw, OK, 2 sons: William S. Holmes Jr of MWC, OK, David Holmes and wife Louise of MWC, OK, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and his 'Miss Kitty.' He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife V. Lizetta Holmes, 1 daughter: Velda Jones, 1 brother: R. Hartfield Holmes, 1 grandson: William Damon Jones. Services will be 10:00 AM, Tue., Feb. 18, 2003 at Sooner Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery. Barnes & Johnson F.H. 1820 S.
