All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Hammond, Steven Craig Steven Craig Hammond was a gift from the Lord on April 28, 1959, to Willa Thompson and Curtis Hammond in Oklahoma City, OK. He joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church at a very early age, where he was an active member of the Adult Choir. He attended elementary school at Truman and Pleasant Hill Elementary. He spent his junior high years at Pleasant Hill and Del Crest Junior High, During his high school years at Del City High School, Steve demonstrated his God given talents as an all-around athlete, especially in football and track. In his senior year, he received numerous awards, which included; Oklahoma Offensive Player of the year, Oklahoma All-State, Top Prep 100, Parade All- American, the Oklahoma Scholar Athlete of the Year, along with many other honors. He also lead Del City High School to a class 5A state football championship. After his high school years, Steve was awarded an athletic scholarship to attend Oklahoma State University, where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Management. Following college, he began a 20 year career as a Contract Administrator at Tinker Air Force Base. Steve's love for athletics was passed on to the next generation through his participation as coach with many youth organizations. Not only did he have a great impact on young people in the area of athletics, but also in the classroom, where he volunteered as a mentor and tutor in the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Steve was also very active in other organizations such as: Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Leadership Oklahoma City Oklahoma Secondary Scholastic Athletic Organization, the Oklahoma All-Sports Association, and the Oklahoma State Black Alumni Association. In 1990 he married Cherri Young. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stevon Ladale and Crystal D'che Hammond. He is also survived by his mother, Oklahoma City Councilwoman, Willa Johnson, his father, Curtis Hammond, stepfather, William Johnson, stepmother, Emma Jean Hammond, grandfather, O.T. Thompson, brothers, Larry, Curtis Jr., Leonard, Andrae, Alphonse, Edreko Hammond, and Warren Johnson. Sisters, Charlotte Taylor, LaDora Jones, Ava Hammond and Nikki Givens.
