"Bob" Hammond, 69, former activities director of Broadway Baptist Church, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Memorial Service: A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth at 2 p.m. Tuesday. A reception at the church will follow immediately after the service. Memorials: The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to the Youth-Activities Program at Broadway Baptist Church. Bob was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Oklahoma City. He received a bachelor of arts in physical education from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1960. In 1968, he co-founded the Texas Baptist Recreation Association. In 1983, he received a master of science in kinesiology from Texas Christian University. In 1967, Bob joined the staff of Broadway after serving for six years at First Baptist in San Antonio. For almost 30 years, he served as activities director in addition to several interim roles, including business administration, youth minister and director of the Baptist Center. Bob organized and directed countless programs for all ages, including Family Nights, mission trips, summer camps, day camps, arts and crafts, square dances, ski trips, backpack trips, canoe trips, basketball leagues, softball teams, golf tournaments and, most recently, "Body Recall," a Parkinson's exercise class for seniors. He was a valued mentor and friend to many who passed through the activities program. Bob did not preach, but he did teach, with an encouraging ministry that focused on relationships, family and fun. Survivors: His wife of 45 years, Rosemary; children, Scott and his wife, Kimberly of Katy, Jennifer and her husband, Bruce Offield of San Antonio, Jeff and his wife, Stephanie of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Molly, Haley, Caleb, Joey, Joshua, Will, Rachel, Daniel, Avery and Ellie; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
