All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Lindale Cemetery--Lindale TX Joe Smith Hardcastle LINDALE - Joe Smith Hardcastle, 96, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Grapevine. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home with Dr. Bruce Cresson officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery. Mrs. Hardcastle was born April 4, 1908, in Lindale the daughter of Mattie Louise Edwards and Samuel Richard Smith. She attended schools in Lindale and graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She attended Texas Woman's University and later received her bachelor of science and master's degrees in education from West Texas State University. She taught in several schools in Wheeler County between 1928 and 1949. She taught in the Amarillo public schools from 1949 to 1973 and later at St. Joseph's Catholic School until 1981. She was a member of the Methodist Church and later the Baptist church. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo from 1949 to 1991 and Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco until her death. Joe was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Kappa Kappa Iota, The Genealogical Society, Society of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy and did volunteer service for the senior citizens. In 2001, she completed and published a book on her family genealogy. She was preceded in death by two sisters; four half-sisters; three half-brothers; and two great-granddaughters. Survivors include two sons, Harold Hardcastle and wife, Peggy, and Donald Hardcastle and wife, Dana; a daughter, Joe Ann Standlee and husband, Bill; a sister, Miriam Vale; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association or a favorite charity.
