Capps Lodi, CA Feb. 28, 1927 - January 15, 2007 S. Capps Hoshour, 79, of Lodi, passed away Monday, January 15, 2007. He was born in Winchester, Virginia, February 28, 1927. He moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1936. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Europe and upon discharge as a Master Sergeant enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He attended the University of Oklahoma, St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, and upon graduation in 1951 he began a career with the American Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces and Veterans, serving in Europe and the Far East. While living in Italy he assisted in the resettlement of refugees from the Suez Crisis in 1956 and the Hungarian Revolution of the same year. He received the Henri Dunant award for humanitarian service for his efforts in the Ryukyu Islands from the Japanese Red Cross. In 1966 he transferred to the American Red Cross Blood Services, retiring as Administrator of the Central California Red Cross Regional Blood Center in San Jose, California in 1988. He moved to Lodi that same year. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, hunting, fishing, photography, flying light aircraft, and travel. He was a past member of the American Business Research Institute, The Association of Blood Center Administrators, Kiwanis International, the Elks Club, Toastmasters International, Sigma Tau Historical Research Society and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was a volunteer at Kaiser Medical Center and American Cancer Society. In 1952 he married Carol Ann Lindgren of Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by David Leslie Hoshour of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kate Hoshour of Laguna Beach, California, Janet Lynn Hoshour of South Nyack, New York; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Family and friends will gather at United Methodist Church in Lodi, CA for a Memorial Service on Friday, January 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Ancestral Cemetery in Woodstock, Virginia. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent tot he American Red Cross, Blood Services, Washington, D.C. 20006.
