All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Jackson, Enid Louise "Renois" Enid Louise "Renois" Jackson the daughter of Mrs. Mae Benton Renois and Mr. Albert Ross Renois passed away Saturday, December 14, 2002, in Okla. City. Enid was born December 9, 1913, near Estelline in Hall County, Texas. She finished the 4th grade in the rural schools in the area and the 8th grade and first two years of high school in Sulphur, OK; then her family moved back to Texas where she finished high school in Gainesville, Texas, May 26, 1933. Following high school, at Sulphur she met Joe C. Jackson, an upper classman and the two were married May 5, 1934, in the living room of her parent's home in Gainesville. After their marriage, they made their home in Sulphur, where Enid began her career as a teacher's help mate for three years at Sulphur, OK, eleven years at Bristow, OK and 29 years in Okla. City. When they arrived in Edmond, she enrolled as a Freshman in Central State College (UCO now) and was awarded a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, July 26, 1951, and began teaching the first grade in the Andrew Johnson Elementary School in Oklahoma City that fall. Over the years, Enid continued her education and was awarded a Master's Degree in Education by the University of Oklahoma August 8, 1954. While a student at Central and OU, she was a member and officer of Delta Zeta Sorority and was regularly listed on The Dean's and President's Honor Rolls of the two schools she was also listed among Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities; was editor of the Central State Yearbook for 1951 and 1952; and was active in a number of other clubs and organizations on the campus. As a teacher in the Andrew Johnson Elementary School, she was almost without a peer. Enid was regarded as an expert teacher of reading and frequently appeared on panels to demonstrate her skills. On two occasions, she was named The Teacher of The Year in her building and was twice nominated as Teacher of The Year in the Oklahoma City Schools. In 1953, her first grade class won a school-wide safety contest and was honored by an appearance of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans who presented the award. When Enid retired, after 29 years at the Johnson School, Wayne Mackey of the Oklahoma City Times said of her, "as a teacher she is the greatest and taught more than a thousand students at the Johnson School." Enid was not only a teacher, but a loving and loyal wife; homemaker; mother; grandmother; great grandmother neighbor and friend. She was also a community and church worker who made a difference. She was a very religious person and read the Bible daily. She was the organizer and founder of the Edmond Rotary Ann's Club and was its first President. She was a leader in the Faculty Wive's Association over the years and a strong supporter of UCO. Enid was a member of the OEA; the NEA; the UCO Alumni Association; the OU Alumni Association; and a supporter of the UCO Foundation and a member of the "President's Partners". She was also a member of the First Methodist Church in Edmond for over 50 years and sang in a Methodist Church Choir for over 60 years. She was a classy bridge player and had a host of friends. She was a Democrat and for many years, was one of Edmond's Leading Club Women. As a "Pink Lady" at the Edmond Hospital, she donated more than six thousand hours of service to the institution and was President of the Auxiliary in 1986. On October 3, 1992, Enid was honored at Homecoming as one of UCO's distinguished former students and at a subsequent dinner in Norman honoring OU's Outstanding Students of the Year, Enid was recognized as having taught four of them in the first grade at Andrew Johnson in Oklahoma City. She is survived by her husband, Joe C Jackson of the home; a son, Victor L. Jackson and his wife, Elizabeth of Norman; a granddaughter, Monya Neilsen and her husband, Stephen of La Junta, CO; a grandson, Adam Jackson and his wife, Leigh of Gig Harbor, Washington State; two great granddaughters, Thisbe Grace Wilkie and Molly Louise Neilsen; a sister, Glendon Holt of Washougal, Washington State; a brother, Thomas Renois of California; a sister-in-law, Ruby Allen of Epworth Villa, in Okla. City; a brother-in law, George E. Jackson and his wife, Mary of El Reno, OK; a brother-in-law, Fred E. Jackson and his wife, Helen of Ballwin, MO; a double cousin-in-law, Ed Jackson and his wife Janie of Newport News, Virginia; along with a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 19, 2002 at 2:00 in the chapel of Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond. With Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers it is requested that friends and relatives contribute to their favorite charities or to the Enid L.
