Jones, of Midwest City, Oklahoma passed away Sunday morning, September 22. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leona Harryman Jones; a son, Basil Kent Jones of Berkeley; a daughter and son-in-law, Lal Duncan and Linda J. Threlkeld; two granddaughters, Ashley Duncan Threlkeld McNelis and husband, Sean; and, Lindsey Duncan Threlkeld, all of San Antonio; and a sister, Mrs. Maxine Hildreth of Amarillo. He will also be missed by many nephews and nieces. Mr. Jones was born in McIntosh County and graduated from high school at Bearden, Oklahoma. He served as secretary-manager of the Chamber of Commerce at Okemah and left that job in 1942 to enter the U.S. Navy where he served his country (2 years in South Pacific) until 1945. He received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Science from Oklahoma State University and earned membership in Alpha Zeta and Phi Kappa Phi. After college he served as Assistant County Agent in Seminole County and on May 1, 1948 began a life long career with the Midwest-Del School District where he retired after 32 years of service in 1980. During his tenure as a teacher of vocational agriculture at Midwest City High School, many honors came his way through his students who for many years won state-wide honors with their show animals and dairy cattle judging teams. Mr. Jones was honored by Oklahoma State University in 1956 as the states outstanding vocational agriculture teacher in the field of Dairy Science. He also was Principal of the first Vocational-Technical School as well as Director of Vocational Education for the district. He had been an active member of Lions Club of Midwest City, serving as President in 1976-77. He was thoughtful, kind and compassionate, and had a love for people, music, and animals and he will be missed. Services will be at the Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd, 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 26. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
