Lucado, Jr., died September 21, 2002. He was born in Oklahoma City in 1922, and was a retired Financial Attorney for businesses, banks, and Government. He was a Great Grandson of Presley Peter Thornton who was a Lt. Col. and Personal Aide-de-Camp to Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War, and also a Great Grandson of Admiral Thornton A. Jenkins, Chief of Navigation, U.S. Navy Dept. He was the Son of Thornton Jenkins Lucado, who was a Train Orphan in 1904 and was adopted by Edwin Lucado, and was later Elected President of the Oklahoma Jr. Chamber of Commerce, and International President of the Sertoma Civic Club. His education included Classen High School of Oklahoma City, the University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City College of Law prior to its becoming the Oklahoma City University College of Law. He was an Attorney specializing in finance and was a senior member of the Oklahoma Bar Association. His experience in banking, business and law provided him with the financial knowledge which he used to help many hundreds of his fellow citizens who had suffered terrible losses due to hurricanes, tornados, and floods in Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. His Business activities included: Officer/Director of Publishing Co., Wholesale Paper Corp., Insurance and Banking interests. His Government activities were Postmaster, Blanchard, OK and Manager, Tulsa office of the Small Business Adm. As a military man, he rose from an enlisted aviation cadet in 1942, to a retired Lieutenanct Colonel of the United States Air Force. He was a Pilot in World War II and later became Wing Comtroller of the Oklahoma Air National Guard. His World War II service was the assisting in the D-Day Landings, the Airborne Drop Christmas Eve 1944 to help break the 'Battle of the Bulge,' and the Dropping of supplies ahead of General Patton as He raced across France to Germany. He always preferred to be a part of the successful mosaic of the two dozen organizations he had worked in, rather than being a star. He liked the challenge of being the 'Tail Twister' of the Lions Club. He liked the 'Impromptu Three-Minute Speeches' required in the Toastmaster Club. he would say, 'It's nice to be needed,' when one of his organizations required him, with very little notice, to leave his home and family and go and help his fellow citizens who had fallen victims of a Natural Disaster. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and an officer and member of nineteen social, civic, military, legal, fraternal and religious organizations. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lucado; two daughters, Luann Lucado Harper, of Oklahoma City, Merrisue Lucado Lucardeaux, of Oklahoma City; and a granddaughter, Emma Dorothy Steimel, of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy, who died in 1984. Memorials may be directed to the charity of choice or to the Village United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Graveside funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at Rose Hill Burial Park. Online tributes may be sent through www.MeM.com.
