Lewellen, born September 2, 1930 in Pooleville, OK to Floyd and Marjorie Lewellen, passed away August 26, 2002. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Yoneko Lee; sons Gene and daughter-in-law Mary Lewellen; Terry and daughter-in-law Melinda Lewellen; David and daughter- in-law Patty Lewellen; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister Lee Lewellen Cook; brothers David Littlejohn and Dean Lewellen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rex attended Capitol Hill High School in OKC and graduated from Hutchinson (KS) High School. He was an Army veteran and served his country honorably. He worked at the Oklahoma Tax Commission Department of Motor Vehicles from 1960-1974. He then went to work for the National Automobile Theft Bureau until his retirement in 1992. He gave back to the community through his years of service to the Boy Scouts, PTA, Optimist International, American Legion and coaching baseball, basketball and football for the youth of South OKC. He made kids believe in themselves and was a positive influence in their lives. He served as a youth Sunday school teacher at Mayridge Baptist Church. He was a dedicated member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Odyssey Healthcare, Inc. for their devotion and assistance. He leaves us with many enjoyable memories and will be greatly missed. He touched the lives of more people than can be mentioned here. Services will begin 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 30, 2002 at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin Wednesday evening at Resthaven Funeral Home located at S.W. 104th and Walker. In lieu of flowers, you may send memorial contributions to the Diagnostic Center for Alzheimer's Disease, The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, P.O. Box 26901, OKC, OK 73190.
