Daniel Leen of Kirkland died peacefully at home Aug. 16. He was 82. The Rev. Leen was born in County Kerry, Ireland Aug. 10, 1920. He attended a seminary in Durham County College in Durham, England, which included studies in the Netherlands and Austria. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1946, and was stationed in the Philippines for 10 years, where he taught philosophy. He met his wife Barbara in 1963, at which point he converted to the Episcopal Church, and went to work as a minister in Oklahoma City. The family settled in Redmond in 1982 and moved to Kirkland in 1987. He served as Rector for St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Woodinville until January of this year, when he retired. He had a devoted group of parishioners who enjoyed his history and spiritual lessons from the pulpit. He was a scholar, an avid historian, a teacher and student of theology, philosophy and current events until the end of his life. He was devoted to his family, and he always supported them in every venture. He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Virginia and her husband Patrick, Kevin and his wife Shannon, grandchildred Trevor and MacLeighin, sisters Madge and Annie, brothers Pat and Mike, and his loving parish family. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 20, following a requiem Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Bartholomew's, which will send them to a chairty of your choice.
