Jim C., age 73, born Oct. 16, 1928, to Mata (Dahl) and John Charles Murphy in their farm home West of Edmond, died Aug. 17, 2002. Graduated from Deer Creek High School. Married Ivon Wagner in 1951 at Hopewell Baptist Church. Survived by Ivon, his wife of almost fifty- one years, his children and their spouses: Terry & Cathy, Mike, Jay & Florene, Joy, and nine grandchildren. Jim was a farmer and dairyman. He served six years on the OK County Farm Bureau Board. Jim operated a dairy until 1980 serving on the OK Milk Producers Credit Union Board for five years. He was on the Deer Creek School Board for 20 years, running unopposed for his last term. Jim was a founder. In 1971 he helped establish the Deer Creek Rural Water System serving the community as chairman, member, or manager for 30 years. He helped set up the OK Rural Water Assn. Scholarship Fund and the OK Rural Water Assn. Assurance Group. Jim served the rural communities of Oklahoma For over 30 years as the ORWA board member including president (9 yrs) & vice- president (11 yrs). He received both the ORWA Pioneer Award and the Governor's Oklahoma Water Pioneer Award for service to the State. Jim was recently selected to serve on the national Rural Water Assn. Board. Jim was a father. He played with us. Our dad coached, taught, advised, and guided us throughout our lives. When we needed him, he came... no matter what he was doing. He was a great dad! Memorials may be sent to the Jim C. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o ORWA, PO Box 95349, OKC, OK 73143. Services Thurs., Aug. 22, 1 PM at Heritage Baptist Church, 14317 N. Council. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
