McGovern, 85, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at a Fort Worth hospital. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials: Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the charity of your choice. Hugh was born May 30, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Sarah Coyle McGovern and John McGovern. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1939, which brought him to Oklahoma to be stationed at Will Rogers Air Field. Hugh was an Oklahoma City, Okla., motorcyle policeman before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a B-17 gunner and was awarded a Purple Heart. Hugh retired as a technical sergeant after 30 years of service. He married E. Jane Deweese on Aug. 18, 1941, in Oklahoma City and they were married for 24 years. They raised two children, Hugh Jr. and Janice. He married Patricia Cook in 1969 in Paris, Texas, and they celebrated 36 years together in February. Hugh loved his family and friends and was always there to support and care for them. He was happiest when he was helping someone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and his wife, Marie, and Jimmy and his wife, Helen. Survivors: Wife, Pat; son, Hugh Jr. and wife, Donna; daughter, Janice Shockley and husband, Gary, all of Norman, Okla.; brother, Frank McGovern and wife, Mary, of Media, Pa.; grandchildren, Kim Avila and husband, Manuel, Kara McGovern, Kyle McGovern and wife, Tracy, Jana Shockley and her fiance, Steven Holcomb, and Gayla Coffey and husband, Benne; great- grandchildren, Cameron, Carson, Blakely, Keelin, Raylei, Lilly Mae, Tyler, Kyle, Ray, Cody and Peyton, all of Norman, Okla.; brothers and sisters-in- law, Johnny and Lorraine Bryant of Grand Prairie, Charles and Lynetta Cook of Greenville, Bert and Joyce Cook of Fort Worth, Norman Jean Cook of Craig, Colo., Vickie Jo Cook of Lewisville, Richard Cook and Sharon and Steve Hilbert of Fort Worth; many nieces and nephews; and faithful companions, Yoakie and JoJo.
