All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Monroe, Mildred Elenore ('Elen') Mildred Elenore ('Elen') Monroe, 75, of Edmond passed away July 25, 2002. She was born April 21, 1927, in Columbia, Missouri to Richard L. and Olga Holmgren Monroe. Her early years were spent in the Panama Canal Zone where her father worked for the U. S. Corps of Engineers. Returning to the United States in 1945, she entered Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and obtained a degree in mathematics in 1949. She enlisted in the Air Force and rose to the rank of staff sergeant before entering Officer's Candidate School and receiving her commission in 1952. She received a degree in meteorology from Pennsylvania State University while in the Air Force in 1954. She married Stuart W. Henderson June 12, 1954, in Rock Island and travelled to England with him, where her first child, Tracy Taylor Henderson, was born July 27, 1955. After returning to the United States in 1957, she attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where her second child, Kyle David Henderson, was born January 1, 1964. Following her husband's graduation from OU in 1959, she lived three years in Australia and one year in Dubai, UAE. Returning to the United States, she resided in Humble, Texas, and obtained a degree in Accounting from the University of Houston. She began employment as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service in 1978, and obtained her Certified Public Accountant accreditation in 1983. She continued working for the IRS in Oklahoma City until her retirement in 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Taylor Henderson, of Oklahoma City; her son and daughter-in-law, Kyle David and Kristi Phillips Henderson, of Redington Beach Florida; her ex- husband, Stuart W. Henderson, of Edmond; two grandsons, John Travis Henderson and M. Jared Patterson, of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Irene L. Boyd of Des Moines, Iowa, and Genevieve Jinks of Chicago, Illinois; a brother, Richard L. Monroe, of Bethesda, MD; and a cousin, Eleanor A. Peterson, of Chicago. Services will be held Monday, July 29, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. in the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home Chapel. 'Millie' will be remembered for her devotion to her family. When we needed her, as we did on many occasions, she was there. Her integrity, her principles, and her strength enabled several of us less strong than she to endure the storms of life.
