"Doc" Marshall, 78, who died peacefully Wednesday morning, January 19, 2005 at his home in Durant, will be Saturday, January 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Rock Creek Elementary School gymnasium, Blue Oklahoma. Ross Phillips will officiate. No funeral or graveside services will be held, as Doc's wish to be cremated and his remains to be spread over the farm he so dearly loved will be carried out by the family. Any floral arrangements that wish to be sent please have them delivered to the Blue school on Saturday morning. Doc Marshall was born June 21, 1926 in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Granville and Ruth Marshall. He lived in Oklahoma all his life. He attended public school in Haskell until he joined the Navy in 1942. While in the Navy he was in the Navy's Medical Corp as a Corpsman and made numerous combat landings in the South Pacific with the Marines. His caring and concern for his Navy and Marine comrades in combat set the stage for his medical career. Upon leaving the Navy, Doc entered Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Ok, then Carver Chiropractic College in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Carver in 1953 as a Chiropractic physician, (D.C.), later taught human biology and body chemistry at Carver, then became Dean of Students at Carver. At the same time he was establishing a vibrant medical practice in the Oklahoma City area where he practiced until 1964. After a long career in the Oklahoma City area, delivering hundreds of children, serving on local school boards, the city council and as a member of the Lions club, Doc wanted to move his practice to a little slower paced environment. So in the summer of 1964 he moved his practice to Bokchito, Oklahoma. In the small town of Bokchito, he was quickly accepted as the towns and the surrounding areas "Doc" and local character. Doc practiced there until the time of his death, from 1964-2005. Doc ran unsuccessfully for the third district congressional seat in 1972 as an Independent candidate against incumbent the Honorable Carl Albert. He won 10 percent of the popular vote during this his first endeavor into politics, and was very proud of his accomplishment. He was noted for caring for patients whether they had money or not. He was truly a country doctor that was born 100 years to late. If you didn't have money for the care you needed he would accept pies, cakes, chickens, livestock or any other form of barter. He cared for people as a whole and would give you the shirt off of his back if he felt like you truly needed it. He was a man first and a doctor second. He truly made a difference in thousands of lives in Oklahoma, perpetually always giving more than he took from his patients. He loved to trade old cars, motorcycles and airplanes. He was still riding motorcycles at the age of 78 prior to his illness. He was a private pilot and loved flying with his son Ron and talking airplanes. He loved his farm and spent the majority of his free time there. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved being around them, teasing and playing with them. He loved and would not miss any part of Oklahoma's deer seasons. He was an avid hunter and held a lifetime Oklahoma hunting and fishing license. He was preceded in death by his father Granville Littleton Marshall, stepmother, Lettie Marshall and his biological mother Ruth Marshall all of Haskell, OK. Survivors include wife of the home, Virginia Marshall; stepchildren Dana and Chris Duke, Durant, OK; older sister Guila Stott of Langley, Ok; first wife LaVeta Marie Caldwell, Silo, OK; sons Ronald Ray Marshall and his wife Delores of Durant, OK; Keith Daniel Marshall and wife Eva of Gordonville, TX; daughter Deborah Kay Marshall of Prateville, AL; grandchildren Wani Coker and husband David of Haslet, TX; Kelli Bleemel and husband Rick of Mckinney, TX; Josh, Corey, and Katy Marshall of Prateville, AL; great-grandchildren Kendal, Masen, and Hadyn Coker, Haslet, TX; Rhet Bleemel, McKinney, TX, plus many other relatives and friends too numerous to name. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Oklahoma County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/oklahoma/oklahoma.html
