Until moving to the Vineyard Cottages in April of 2001, Basil and his wife, Lena, were lifelong residents of the Ardmore area. Basil is survived by his bride of 62 years, Lena Grace Ayers Moran, his beloved sister, Betty Bishop Meadows, his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Ben Belanger, his favorite granddaughter, Brooke, and favorite grandson, Blake, all of Oklahoma City. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Moran Bishop and Paul Bishop, and his brother, J.J. 'Buddy' Moran. Basil Moran was a devoted grandfather, father, husband, brother and friend. He was a veteran, serving his country in the Army Air Corps, enlisting with his Ardmore buddies in 1940, married Lena in 1941, and served as an airplane mechanic through the end of WW II. In 1950, Basil was called up from the Air Corps Reserves and served through the Korean War, returning to Ardmore in 1952. Basil was a member of Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ, and operated the Cox-Moran Grocery and, later, B&H NAPA Auto Supply in Ardmore, until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed listening to the Sooners, Cowboys and the Ardmore Tigers on the radio, playing golf at Lakeview, and, until later years, traveling with his family. After moving to Oklahoma City, Basil was a member of the Britton Road Church of Christ. Services for Basil Moran will be in Ardmore at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 12th, at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore. The family requests that memorials may be sent in Basil's name to the American Lung Association.
