All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Pauline Matye 1923-2007 Former San Diego resident Pauline Matye passed away February 14th in her home in Lompoc. A private ceremony will take place at a later date at Yosemite. Mrs. Matye was born May 10th, 1923 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ruth and Alva Boswell. She graduated from Belmont High School in 1942. She married Jimmy Chastain in 1943 and Gabriel Matye in 1952, both preceded her in death. Mrs. Matye worked as a bookkeeper for a communications company and volunteered as Rosy the Riveter during WWII. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of San Diego, where she taught bible study to children and then became a member in Lompoc. In retirement, she enjoyed quilting, crafting and cooking. Grandchildren affectionately nicked named her Grandma Pokey. She was also known for her quick wit and generosity by family members. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Paris Matye of Lompoc, daughter-in-law, Gayle Chastain of San Diego and daughters, Marsha Edwards of Roland, Okla., Christine West of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Elaine Gorman of Yakima, Wash. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Velma Lee Proctor and her son, Jack Dee Chastain.
