All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Meister, Marianne Marianne Meister, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died peacefully of natural causes Monday, November 1, 2004 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos, Colorado. Marianne was born January 14, 1917, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hattie Mae and John Hunter. She resided in Pawhuska through high school, and following her father's death, moved with her mother to Norman, Oklahoma, where they ran a boarding home for college students. Marianne attended business school and was educated as a secretary. She helped support her mother while working for the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office. While working there, she met and married Mark Meister of Oklahoma City. They were married for 40 years until his death in 1980. In 1965, she returned to the state capitol as a secretary for several state representatives and senators. She retired from Senate service at the age of 75. Marianne became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City in 1940 where she served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, member of the Priscilla Circle of Presbyterian Women, and a Bible study leader. She received a Lifetime Service Award from Presbyterian Women in 2001. She also served on the Board of Directors of Shepherd Manor for several years. Marianne was also involved in Presbyterian Cursillo through which she shared her strong faith in the Lord and the power of prayer. In additon, Marianne was a talented watercolor artist, known by many for her beautiful paintings of birds and landscapes. She was a member of the Oklahoma Art Guild and the Oklahoma Watercolor Association. Her cultural horizons and artistic skills were broadened with numerous art study trips in the United States and abroad. She influenced many people by sharing her artistic talent, especially with her grandchildren who share her love of art. Marianne is survived by her son, Stuart Meister, of Darnestown, Maryland, and her daughters, Susanne Kern, of Durango, Colorado, and Nancy Slade, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Allison McKay, Mark Meister, Lori Moore, Tom Stacy, Doug Tatum, Jeff, Jennifer, Jered Kern, Susanne and James Slade, and four great grandchildren, Braden, Tayci, and Kayti Moore, and David Tatum. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 13, 2004, in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 1001 N.W. 25th, Oklahoma City. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the First Presbyterian Church, OKC, or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
