Newton Sr. as moderator. Mr. Newton died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, in Lawton. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. He was born Oct. 13, 1954, in Oklahoma City, to Celestine and Leroy L. Newton. He graduated from Altus High School and attended Oscar Rose Junior College in Oklahoma City. He served in the U.s. Army, as a nuclear weapons specialist. He was a Sergeant when he was discharged. He was a carpenter at Tinker Air Force Base, and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include three sons: Leonard Wayne Newton Jr., Juprell Whittaker, and Kiwan Whittaker, all of Oklahoma City; three daughters: Nikki Oagee, Midwest City; and Wyanitia Newton, and April Newton, both of Oklahoma City; seven brothers and sisters-in-law: Leroy L. Jr. and Beverly Newton, Oklahoma City; Ulysses and Corrinda Newton, Germany; Rodney L. and Wilhemina Newton, Long Beach, Calif.; Randell N. and Sherond Newton, Midwest City; Isaac and Stephanie Newton, Georgia; Troy D. and Jamilah Newton, Edmond; Booker T. and Vetrece Newton, Killeen, Texas; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Edna and Derrell Greene, Belleville, Ill.; Claire D. and Rufus Lindsay, Lawton; and Clairetta D. and John Lee, Indiahoma; a grandchild; special aunts and uncles: Marcellus and Sam Jackson, Katie and Johnnie Richardson, Mattie and Lawrence Newton, Lee Riley, Susan Jones, Ada Harris, Mary Nolen and Peggy and John Martin; special family friends: Suzanne Shivers and Brenda Oages; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
