Nations, long-time resident of the Oklahoma City metro area, passed away on January 15th at the age of 69 at Deaconess Hospital following a lengthy illness. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Western Oaks Christian Church, 8100 NW 23rd St. in Bethany. Robert was born in Bray, OK, on October 20, 1933, to Clifford and Hallie Gertrude Nations. The Nations family also lived in Marlow and Norman during his youth. Bob was active in all the school sports programs and American Legion baseball, working in paper routes for The Norman Transcript and The Daily Oklahoman. Following High School in Norman, Bob served two years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Coming back home, he attended OU on the GI Bill. His family career began when he married Shirley McGuire of Oklahoma City in 1955 and becoming father to a son Terry and a daughter Laura. Being a family man, he was involved with coaching ball teams in which his children were involved and youth programs at Linwood Methodist Church where he served as youth director and charge lay leader. Bob was a 30-yr. employee of IBM, beginning as a typewriter repair man and advancing to Senior Analyst in administration. Bob was left a widower when Shirley died at an early age in 1979. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his older brother R. C. Nations and a step-daughter Beverly Dixon. Bob met and married Maurita Coleman Dixon in July of 1982; they were married 20 years. They were active in Norman First Christian Church and operated an in-home secretarial service dba Power Typing. Bob is survived and beloved by his wife Maurita, two children, Terry of Webb City, MO, and Laura Schaulat of Okla. City; step- daughters Laurie Deese of Okla. City and Cynthia Levine of Pacifica, CA, six grandchildren, DeAnna and Justin Nations, Elizabeth Schaulat, Maegan and Kaelan Deese, Noah Levine; two sisters Juanona Burress and Leona Harmon, both of Norman, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great. Bob was a member of the American Legion, Cleveland County Audubon Society, OK Native Plant Society, M*A*S*H Sunday School Class of Western Oaks Christian Church, and Deaconess Better Breathers where he had many devoted pulmonary therapists. In lieu of flowers, the family has designated American Lung Association or OK Medical Research for emphysema as appropriate memorials.
