She was born the 10th of 11 siblings on June 12, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Joseph and Myrtle (White) Beard. She will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her kind spirit and friendly nature. Her home was a gathering place for all to come to eat, talk, laugh, and listen to her stories of long ago. Family and friends were very important to her. She had a passion for working in her yard. Her 'green thumb' is legendary, as she could turn a stick into a tree, and borrowed seeds into a flower. She loved to share her flowering trophies and her secrets on how to keep them blooming. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, J.D. Newman on March 1, 2000. She is survived by a brother, James Beard of TX; daughter Karen Champeau of Edmond; grandson Bradley Champeau, and special little great-grandson, Jace Williams, both of Del City; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service will be at Sunny Lane Cemetery on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 10:00 am. Published in The Oklahoman on 8/9/2005. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Oklahoma County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/oklahoma/oklahoma.html
