She lived the first 18 years of her life in California, and lived the rest and best part of her life in Oklahoma. She met the love of her life, Cecil Don Owen, when she worked at Tinker Air Force Base. She accidentally hit his car, they fell in love and were married 3 weeks later. Their marriage lasted 31 years until his death on March 11, 1998. Cecil was a very special and rare human being, who made one's life fuller and better just by knowing him. Those who didn't know him will never understand what they missed, and we who did know him are thankful. He was her soulmate and they meant the world to each other. While LaVaughn had no children, she poured out her love and care on her beloved dogs over the years which she treated as her children. She spent many years involved in the rescue and adoption of abused and neglected pets. LaVaughn enjoyed working on her house, yard and cars with Cecil, gaining knowledge of these things many men would envy. She never recovered from Cecil's death and her greatest wish was to be with him again. Her wish has now been granted. She is in Cecil's arms once more and will remain with him for eternity. Those of us who knew and loved LaVaughn are happy for her and celebrate her joy in being once again with the only man she ever truly loved and who made her complete. LaVaughn leaves behind her beloved and most faithful black lab, Sophie, who stood with her through the good times and the many bad times over the last 14= years. She also leaves her brother and sister-inlaw, Wayne & Karen Moore of Duncan, OK, best friends, Pat Schieber of Oregon and Ann Halbrook of Oklahoma City, and many other friends and acquaintances. She was a loyal and loving friend, our highest praise, and we will miss her greatly. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 13 at 11:30 at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, Oklahoma. Services will be under the direction of Smith- Phillips Funeral Home, 123 E. 13th St., Ada, OK 74820, (580)332-6011.
