Peoples, Jr., 84, died February 27, 2003, in Oklahoma City, OK. A. V. was born March 4, 1918, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from Classen High School and from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Business. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and Scabbard and Blade. A.V. enlisted in the Army Air Corps, and while stationed at Tyndall Field AFB in Panama City, FL, met and married Mary Jean Bennett, July 25, 1942. While piloting B-24 Bombers, Capt. Peoples was shot down over Romania and was held as a prisoner of war in Bulgaria. After his release in Sept. 1944, he attended helicopter school at Shepherd Field in Wichita Falls, TX and flew the first helicopter into Oklahoma. A.V. returned to Oklahoma City and owned and operated Merchants Delivery Company until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed overseas traveling, the stock market and volunteering many hours of service to the Classen High School Museum. He was a lifelong member of Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. His parents, A.V. and Hazel Peoples; sister, Hazel Jeane Cole and brother, Bob Peoples preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Peoples; son, A.V. Peoples, III of Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Joe Ann and Alan Terrill of Oklahoma City; 4 grandchildren, Ben Terrill of St. Louis, MO, Bartley Terrill of Houston, TX, Alee Peoples of Oklahoma City, Lee Peoples and wife, Emma of Oklahoma City. Memorial gifts may be made to: Nichols Hills United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. SMITH & KERNKE 1401 NW 23rd ST.
