All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--OKC OK Havenbrook Funeral Home Obituary Maurice Lyle Peter, Jr. Maurice Lyle Peter, Jr., M.D., 73, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in Norman, Oklahoma. A Trisagion Prayer of Mercy will be held at 5:30 P.M., Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 29, 2005, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Father Justin McFeeters officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Pallbearers are Chuck Graves, James Munkres, Larry Jefferson, Ed Adwon, Jim Hughes, Marc Adkins and James Owen. Mr. Peter was born June 8, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Claribel Elizabeth (Oldfield) and Maurice Lyle Peter, Sr. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He married JoAnna Standerfer on August 29, 1953. Mr. Peter graduated from Oklahoma A. & M. College (OSU) with a bachelor degree in Chemistry. He then received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma. He moved to Norman in 1975, from Oklahoma City. Mr. Peter enjoyed his career as a physician, he worked at the Goddard Health Center at the University of Oklahoma and at the Norman Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center. He enjoyed a number of hobbies and participated in many community activities with his children, including serving as Little League baseball coach, football coach, and assisted with Little League wrestling with the Satellites Little League group in Oklahoma City. He was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism as "Baron Merfyn Gareth ap Mouric", who was active in Chirurgeonate (First Aid/Medical Aid), and was awarded the Chirurgeon Emeritus Award for his services. Mr. Peter was also a member of the Order of the Sable Storm, a very special order within the Namron group. He volunteered two mornings each week for about ten years at Norman Regional Hospital. He was a loving father and husband. Mr. Peter was a member of the Holy Ascension Orthodox Christian Church in Norman. Mr. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Robert Lyle Peter. Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, JoAnna, of the home; two daughters, Trish Westcott, of Edmond, OK, and Sharon Smith and husband, Doug, of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Stephen B. Peter and wife, Judy, of Oklahoma City, and John Peter and wife, Judy, of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Jordan, Trey and Amy Westcott, of Edmond, OK, Sean and Heather Smith, of Nashville, TN, and Edward and Janesiea Peter; and three great-grandchildren, Miranda, Evan and Chandler.
