All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Payne, Howard Cecil Howard Cecil, of Oklahoma City, passed away August 3, 2002, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Cecil's family lovingly cared for him in the home for several years. At the time of his death, his family surrounded him with love at Skyview Nursing Center until he peacefully found his way to Heaven. Cecil was born in Okmulgee, OK, May 25, 1922, to Jake Payne and Annie Havner. He lived in Sapulpa, OK until 1940, when he entered the United States Army to fight for his country in WW II. Cecil courageously served his country from August 1940 to March 1946. During his service he fought in the Pacific as well as the European Front. After his honorable discharge, Cecil married Vera Mae Gooch on September 10th, 1946, in Sapulpa, OK. Cecil and Vera lived in Sapulpa and Stillwater before making their home in Oklahoma City where he resided until his death. The couple had 3 children. Cecil was a hard working man who made his living in his early years by owning and operating neighborhood taverns. He also spent many years as a house foundation repair specialist. After retirement, Cecil and Vera owned and operated a used furniture store in Southeast Oklahoma City. Cecil's hobbies included his garden and sharing his crops with his family and neighbors. He loved to play cards and enjoyed frequent trips to Nevada with his wife and family. Cecil was happiest when his family gathered for dinner on holidays and for special occasions. Cecil was loved by all who knew him, but most especially by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruby Dykes, his beloved son Bruce and one great great grandchild, Tyler Monholland. Cecil is survived by his wife Vera of the home; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Sandy Payne of Norman, OK; daughter and son-in- law Deborah Gillispie O'Neal and Robert of Oklahoma City; grandsons Shane Martin, Chris Martin and Jeremy Payne of Norman, Jason Gillispie of Oklahoma City; granddaughters Brenda Sue Payne Curby of Oklahoma City, Tori and Kacie Gillispie of Oklahoma City, and Jenny Payne of Norman. Cecil is also survived by 8 great grandchildren one great great granddaughter and a host of other family and friends. Cecil was a war hero and a hero to his family. He will be missed by many. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the Hunter Memory Chapel with burial at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
