Ben was born April 15, 1923 in Carterville, Missouri, to Charles Benjamin and Fannie Farmer Pritchett who preceded him in death. The family moved to the Bethany area in 1925 where he lived most of his life. He attended Putnam City Schools and in 1942 enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served as a Gunner's Mate Second Class on the Aircraft Carrier the U.S.S. Kitkun Bay. After WWII he returned to Oklahoma where he enjoyed serving in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for a number of years before taking a position with the United States Postal Service where he continued until his retirement. He also served as a bus driver for the Putnam City School System. He was an active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where he taught Sunday School, served in the Bus ministry and coached baseball and softball. Ben was a man of strong Christian faith who shared that faith in Jesus Christ at every opportunity. All who knew Ben will remember his humble servant's heart and the gift he gave whether it was; time, transportation, OU tickets, a book with a thoughtful inscription, or a gentle hand with a heartfelt prayer. We will miss him but REJOICE as we imagine the gentle smile and "Praise the Lord" that came from his lips as he met his Savior face to face and heard "Welcome home, good and faithful servant." Ben is survived by one brother, Bill Pritchett and wife, Shirley of Warr Acres, two sisters, Lucille Pritchett of Bethany and Patricia Meek and husband, Stan of Pryor, Oklahoma, one son, Ron Pritchett and wife, Diane and their three children, Brad, Cherilyn, and Aryn, three daughters, Gayle Webb and husband Rodger, Joy McCord and husband Lance and their three children Cole, Taylor, and Clint, and Benice Wallace and husband Mark and their son Matt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of loving friends. The family wishes to give special thanks to Mary Fuller for her friendship and support. We also are very grateful for the staff at Heritage Assisted Living and Hospice for their loving care during these last difficult weeks. Services celebrating the life of Ben Pritchett will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 6, 2003 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Reaching Our City, 7710 NW 10th, OKC, OK 73127.
