Ray July 25, 1921 May 21, 2002 Charles P. Ray, 80, of Los Osos, CA died on May 21, 2002 in a local hospital. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2002 from 1-3 p.m. at Reis Chapel in San Luis Obispo, CA with funeral services that same day at 3 p.m. Charles was born on July 25, 1921 in Burkburnett, TX to Carl and Agnes Flower Ray. Mr. Ray grew up in Oklahoma City, graduated from Central High School, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University College of Law and University of Wisconsin School of Banking. Mr. Ray served with the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a co-pilot on a B-17 with the Eighth Air Force stationed in England. He was shot down over Nazi Germany on January 29, 1944 and captured. He was a prisoner of war until May 1945. Decorations include the Purple Heart, Air Medal with oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. Mr. Ray retired as a vice-president of Central National Bank, Oklahoma City, in 1975. Mr. Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years Peggy, of Los Osos, CA; sons Kyle Ray of Bakersfield, CA, John Ray and wife Nancy of Katy, TX, Patrick Ray of Los Osos, CA, Bill Ray and wife Janie of Duncan, OK, and Phil Ray of Oklahoma City, OK; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
