All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Winton District Cemetery--Winton CA Roberts, Jody Dale Dale Roberts passed away on Feb. 7, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 3, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK and moved to California in 1945. He graduated from Livingston H.S. in 1953 and then attended Modesto Junior College. Dale started with the Merced Sherwin Williams Paint Company as paint salesman in 1956 and was promoted to store manager in 1964. He remained with the company for 43 years and turned down many promotions offered by the company because he didn't want to leave family and friends in the area. Dale was well known and respected in the business community, and helped many new paint contractors in establishing their trade. Available to anyone who needed help, he offered advice as well as his time and services. As a member of the Merced Junior Chamber of Commerce, Dale was instrumental in their Seat Belt Clinic, a program to put seat belts into all area cars before it was a law. Many weekends were spent with fellow members installing belts in the cars of all who wanted them. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. With the Elks, he regularly donated blood and could be called on to give in a time of shortage. All told, he donated more than eight gallons of blood and only stopped due to illness. He brought joy to many area children and seniors by playing Santa at schools and convalescent hospitals. In 1996, Dale decided it was time to retire to his ranch in Atwater and build furniture in his work shop. He stayed active in retirement helping friends and family. Many houses were painted and handcrafted wood items were made and donated to charities. Never one to meet a stranger, Dale made friends every where he went and always had a new joke or prank to the delight of all. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Maxine, and children Mark Roberts of Atwater, Leslie Arriola (Bob) of Antelope, CA, and Janette Roberts-Mahy (Jason) of Atwater. He will be greatly missed by grandchildren Julia Roberts, James, Cameron, and Nicholas Arriola, and Cheyenne and Luke Mahy. He is survived by brothers Beau Roberts of Modesto and Leonard "Chuck" Roberts of Ballico. All family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service to be held Monday, Feb. 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home in Atwater. Burial to follow at Winton Cemtery. The Reverend Michael Dwyer will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UC Davis Cancer Center, Health Science s Advancement, 4900 Broadway, Suite 1150, Sacramento, CA 95820.
