Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, January 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK. Burial will follow the service at the Lawson Cemetery in Yale, OK. Pallbearers will be Steve Dyer, Bethany, OK, Stan Dyer, Kansas City, MO, Mitchell Tarver, Chandler, OK, Bret Tarver, Cushing, OK, Kevin Fry, Mannford, OK, Rudy Mandeville, Perkins, OK. In recent years Mrs. Reed was president of Independent Accounting, Inc., in Oklahoma City a tax service with clients throughout the city, including numerous families and businesses in the Asian-American community. She and her husband Jess Barton Reed were devoted and loving partners in life and also in, various businesses, including owner and manager of Capitol Hill Beauty College in the 1970s. Nila was born in Ripley, OK, on July 28, 1927, to John William Mitchell and Lois Isabel Straughn Mitchell. She graduated from Ripley High School in 1946. Her grandparents and great-grandparents settled in Payne County during the 1892 Sac and Fox land run. Besides her parents, Nila was preceded in death by two brothers, Corliss Mitchell and Norman Mitchell. Besides her husband, she is survived by a step daughter, Karen Rae Reed of El Reno, and Dan W. Reed of Oklahoma City. She leaves four sisters: Laveda Dyer of Sedan, KS; Reva Mandeville of Stillwater; Doris Gates of Mannford; and Sue Tarver of Stillwater; sisters -in-law Gloria Mitchell of Oklahoma City and Mabel Louise Reed of Fort Smith, AR; and brothers-in-law Gene Gates and Tommy Tarver. Nila will be remembered by her sisters as the one who invested, many hours each day in personal and phone conversations that brought healing and compassion through all the passages of their lives. She is also mourned by five first cousins, Ruth Spivey of San Antonio, TX, Alice Clark of Brevard, NC, Harold Straughn of Oklahoma City, Janet Mills of Mission, KS, and Keith Straughn of Little Rock, AR. Her three nieces, Meredith Fry, Marna Drury, and Rilla Johnston, along with her six nephews, Steven Dyer, Stanley Dyer, Jimmy Gates, Rudy Mandeville, Mitchell Tarver, and Brett Tarver, all who looked upon their Aunt Nila as a source of joy, love, and endless encouragement, as she showed interest in their many achievements, and constantly supported them during times of loss.
