Paul Reed, 90, of Oklahoma City, was called home to our Lord, on February 22, 2003, due to complications following a fall a few days earlier. He was born in Wray, Colorado, and spent his early years there. In 1924, his father, Isaac, decided to give his three children a Christian education and moved the family to Bethany, Oklahoma, where Paul would graduate from Bethany Peniel College in 1935. He married Loula Taylor, and for several years taught school in Eastern Colorado. A son, Gerard A. Reed, was born in 1941. Loula died in 1944. During WWII, he joined the United States Weather Bureau and served in the United States Coast Guard. Following the war, in 1946, he married M. Lucile Lantz, and they resided in Dodge City, Kansas, for eight years as he continued to work for the Weather Bureau. Here Barbara Jo was born in 1947. In 1954, he and the family moved to Colorado Springs, where he retired in 1973. They maintained a residence there until 1990, when they moved to Oklahoma City. He joined the Church of the Nazarene while living in Dodge City, and faithfully supported the church wherever he lived, serving on boards and providing leadership in his active years. At his death, he was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. He also loved to build houses, make furniture, fix machines, and do things with his hands. In his retirement years, especially, he took delight in fishing. He and Lucile spent many months on the Texas coast happily harvesting various kinds of fish. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucile; his sisters, Mary Lear Martin, of Nampa, ID and Ida Connally of Wray, CO; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerard and Roberta Reed of San Diego, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Howard Culbertson of Oklahoma City; a grandson, Matthew Culbertson of Oklahoma City; and a granddaughter, Rachele Floyd of Newberg, OR; and two great grandchildren, Jasmyn and Kaitlyn Culbertson. The funeral will be held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, at 2:00 p.m., on February 25, 2003.
