Remas passed away July 12, 2002. He was born April 7, 1922 in Chicago, IL. He worked for Western Electric prior to joining the Army during WWII. During his four years in the Army, he proudly served as a combat engineer in the Pacific campaign on the islands of Macon, Tarawa, Saipan and Okinawa. After the war, he returned to Chicago and Western Electric. In 1948, he began what would be a 54-year marriage to Ann Chlapecka. His job took him and his family to Duluth, MN, Omaha, NE and finally to Oklahoma City, where they've lived since 1959. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Oklahoma City University in 1969, where he was selected Top Marketing Student. After a forty year career with Western Electric, Ed retired as a supervisor in 1980. Since then, he spent his post-retirement days traveling, working at his computer, sitting on his front porch with his dog, and spoiling his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Frances Remas, his sister, Ellen Divoky, and his infant daughter, Kathleen Ellen. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his sister and brother-in law, Fran and Charles Polansky of Tampa, FL; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Barton of Norman; and granddaughters Jennifer and Kathleen Barton, also of Norman; in addition, he leaves behind numerous friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if you remembered Ed with gifts to the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, or the Harrison Academy for the Performing Arts at 428 W. California Street, Suite 200, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, so that others may continue to enjoy the wonderful sounds of their student orchestras just as he did. He will be missed. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
