John was born August 9, 1921 to Samuel Anderson Shaver and Charlotte Hudson Shaver in Lincoln County Oklahoma. He graduated from Agra High School in 1941. In May of 1944 he married Melba Lee Koonce. He served in the United States Army in World War II coming home to his first daughter, Joan, in 1945. A second daughter, Linda "Gus" was born in 1952. John retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1977. He worked 2 years as a Southwestern Bell right-of way Agent in Arkansas before being elected Grand Secretary of The Grand Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Oklahoma. John was a dual member of Chandler Lodge #58 and Nicoma Park Lodges #541 and held a 33 degree. John and Melba were founding members of the Oklahoma City First Friends Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ila Shaver and his sister, Mary Ludena Yarbrough. He is survived by his wife, Melba, his daughter, Joan, and husband, Thomas R. Galbraith, his daughter Gus and husband John A. Potts, one grandson, Alan W. Galbraith and wife Bonny, and a step great granddaughter, Heather McCulgan. John will be missed by many family, colleagues, and friends. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the OKC First Friends Church, 320 S.E. 62nd St, OKC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Quaker Haven, R.R.4 Box 453, Arkansas City, KS 67005.
