Stipe was born on August 20, 1931 in Lonoke County, Arkansas. He graduated with a B.S. from Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) and received a graduate degree in divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Rev. Stipe was an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and pastored 37 years in Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Arizona and Oklahoma. He held various district offices within the Church of the Nazarene and served on the Board of Trustees of Bethany Nazarene College/ Southern Nazarene University. Rev. Stipe retired in 1993, and at the time of his death he was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. He passed away on September 16, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Rev. Stipe is survived by his wife Eula Mae of Oklahoma City; two children, Denise Fitch and her husband Mark and Paul Stipe and his wife Sandy; four grandchildren, Zachary Stipe, Lauren Stipe, Misty Belflower and Maya Fitch; his mother, Mary A. Moody; one sister, Barbara Scales; one brother, George Stipe; a step-brother, Dwight L. Moody, Jr.; and three step-sisters, Carmelita Bailey, Barbara Sue Schneider and Katy Wood. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening, September 20, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 Saturday morning, September 21, in Herrick Auditorium on the campus of Southern Nazarene University in Bethany. Dr. John A. Knight, former General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery.
