The early morning sun was making the sky a beautiful rose and blue color. There seemed to be a feeling of anxiousness and excitement in the air. The birds" songs were more beautiful and the crows were louder than ever. George's grocery store located in the center of the Witcher community was still dark but the little house back of it was aglow as much as a coal oil lamp could give. Just as the sunlight came through the window a babies" cry was heard. Marguerite and Warren Steffensen had a new brother. Dale Eugene Steffensen was born. Dale lived happily in the little house behind the store through childhood. He walked down the narrow dirt road to the two-room Witcher School (now Oakdale School.) He went to school from his first grade year through eighth grade without a day of absence. He then attended and graduated from the high school located on the Central State University campus in Edmond. Following graduation in May 1942, he volunteered for military service. He was soon seeing the world wearing the Naval Air Force uniform. After his discharge he returned to his Witcher home and started working in the "oil patch." During his early life, all his friends knew him as "Spider" a name that continued with him throughout his entire life. After his oil patch days he worked with the ironworkers doing commercial construction. He loved to brag about all the buildings in Oklahoma City that he did the ironwork on and told many stories about his experiences. When he retired, he and his wife Edith bought a home in Northwood Addition in Edmond. He soon became the "handy man" on the block. He was a long time member of Witcher Baptist Church and was often the "handy man" there too. A long illness kept him confined to his home where he loved to be with his family and friends. Services will be Wednesday, December 11, at 2:00 PM at the Witcher Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife Edith, father and mother George and Martha Steffensen, brother Warren and little dog Schotzie. He is survived by his sister Marguerite Mounts and husband Bud, sister-in-law, Ola May Steffensen, one niece and two nephews, his church family, and his Northwood Addition family. He is a "handy man" in heaven now. Baggerley Funeral Home 930 S.
