All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Sinclair Sr., Andrew Thomas Andrew Thomas ('Tom') Sinclair, Sr., passed away in the early morning hours of March 16, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he had lived since 1947, with Patricia Sinclair, of Wichita, Kansas, his wife of 60 years. He was born in Powell, Wyoming, on February 8, 1918, and was raised in Limon, Colorado, where his parents, A. C. and Evela Sinclair, lived most of their lives. After graduating from the Colorado School of Mines, he married Patricia Vickers on July 4, 1942, before leaving for active duty as a pilot in World War II. He rose to the rank of Captain in the United States Army. His plane went down while transporting supplies from India to China in a part of the Himalayas known as 'the hump.' He survived and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to live in Wichita, Kansas, for three years before moving to Oklahoma City. He was educated as a geologist and worked for Vickers Petroleum after returning from the war. In 1958, he opened his own office in Oklahoma City. He worked in the oil business for 40 years. He was known for his sincerity and amiability. 'Everybody liked Tommy,' said Mrs. Sinclair. 'He didn't have an enemy in the world.' He loved all kinds of music throughout his life and was an ardent supporter of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Mr. Sinclair's grandfather, Thomas Sinclair, immigrated to Canada from Scotland and then to the United States. He eventually settled in Powell, Wyoming, where Mr. Sinclair was born. Mr. Sinclair and his family visited the Orkney Islands, off the northern coast of Scotland, in 2000, where his grandfather lived before immigrating. Mr. Sinclair is survived by Tom Sinclair, Jr., and his wife Kathy and daughter Maya, of Oakland, California; by Sally Nixon of Lawrence, Kansas, and her children, Ned and Kathleen Nixon, Tom and Katie Nixon, Keely and Trevor Patton, and Kelsy and Chuck Schimmel; by Jack and Terry Sinclair, of Oklahoma City, and their children, Coree, Barney and Sally; by Paula and Bob Allen of Oklahoma City, and their children, Porter Berry, Louise and John Birdsell, Patricia, Robby and Drew; and by Mary Patrice Young of Topeka, Kansas, and her daughter Jenny Thompson. And by his sister, Peggy Allen, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. In all, he had 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic or any charity of their choice. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
