He left us after a long battle with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). David was born January 31, 1958 in Hammond, IN. He spent most of his life in this area, graduating from Highland High School in 1976. He was involved in many sports and was a top contender in wrestling in high school. He earned an associates degree in electronics from Missouri Institute of Technology in 1979. He graduated from Kennedy Western University with a bachelor of science (safety management) in 1996. For many years David worked as a geological technician. In 1989 he began working for Oklahoma Publishing Company and continued with them for nine years. Most recently he worked as safety consultant for various companies. He was married, to Chris (Blanton) Smith on April 25, 1992. He was loving, kind and the best friend a wife could ever desire. He was a very loving husband, son, father and uncle. David was an avid fisherman. One of the things he loved most was his fishing trips to Canada with his father and brothers. He also enjoyed spending tine with family at his parents home on Lake Eufaula. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City. He was also a former member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and Society of Human Resource Management. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Weston and Marian Smith; maternal grandparents Charles and Dorothy Hildebrand; and mother-in-law Barbara Blanton. In addition to his wife, Chris, Edmond, he is survived by one daughter, Erin Smith, Edmond; one son Daniel, Edmond; parents George and Betty Smith, Stigler; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Melanie Smith, Yukon; sister and brother-in-law Beth and Bill Pettit, Ft. Gibson; brother and sister-in-law Doug and Melissa Smith, Skiatook; two nephews; seven nieces; and beloved loving buddy, his black Labrador, Comet. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, August 24 at the United Methodist Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd in Oklahoma City.
