She was born in Shawnee, OK on May 30, 1933 to Arthur and Mildred Surber Hammons. Arlieta accepted the Lord in her teens and was baptized in Romulus Baptist Church. She was married to Gene Smith from May 1951 to Jan. 1981. Arlieta retired from Civil Service work at Tinker Air Force Base in 2001, loved to quilt, sew, travel, listen to music and enjoyed the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed other sports events, was a Sooner fan and loved being with family and friends. She was a member of Heavenly Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Deborah and husband, Richard Collins of OKC; sons, Richard Smith and wife, Jan of Bakersfield, CA; David Smith and wife, Susan of Tulsa, OK; Jay Smith and wife, Judy of Mustang, OK; Steve Smith and wife, Cheryl of Rochester, NY; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Belva Phillips of Shawnee; Carolyn McGee and husband, Jack of Enid; brother, Art Hammons and wife, Betty of Broken Arrow. Arlieta was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister. Services are 1:00 pm, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at the Heavenly Heights Baptist Church with burial in Tecumseh Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends for visitation Wednesday 6 to 8 pm.
