"Rod" Roland M. 'Rod' Simmons III, an OKC resident, died Aug. 20, 2002 following a long illness. Rod was born in Dallas, TX to Muriel Edwards Simmons and Roland M. Simmons II Jan. 4, 1932. He lived in Ada, OK with an aunt and uncle, the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren Edwards from 1940-1948 where he attended Hayes Elementary, Ada Jr. High, and Ada High School. He became a member of the First United Methodist Church in 1943. He moved to OKC in 1948 to join his parents and graduated from Classen High School. He joined the US Army Air Force during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Boston, MA and later with the Strategic Air Command at Carlswell AFB in Ft. Worth, TX. Following his discharge, he returned to OKC where he completed his education at OSU and OCU. On May 10, 1958, Rod and Virginia Roso were married and resided in Denver, CO. They later returned to OKC where he was in the insurance business until his retirement. He became a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite in 1953 and the Shrine in 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his widow, Virginia Simmons and several cousins, including Anita Miller of Ada, OK, and Muriel Edwards Lowrance of Albuquerque, NM. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Private services will be held in McAlester, OK with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
