She went home to be with the Lord on April 20, 2007, at the age of 82, where she is reunited with her parents and most of her siblings. Billie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Bill Siglin; a son and daughter-in-law, Les and Judy Siglin, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Earl Downey, Pam and Dan Goza, of Merced, and daughter Janet Siglin and her fiancé, Fred Rathbun of Mariposa; one sister, Elnora "Sis" Black of Merced; and twelve grandchildren, Callie, Emily, Jared, and Joshua Siglin, Amy Downey and her fiancé, Jason Haygood, Michael and Shelley Goza, Tracy and Tischa Shankland, Joel and Jason Fitzwater, and four great grand children, Dominic Wotila, Jacob and Kourtney Goza, and Kylea Shankland. She is also survived by loving church families of First Baptist and Emmanuel Baptist of Merced. Billie was preceded in death by her grandson, Barrett I. Routh; her parents, Lester C. Maxwell Sr. and Amy Beasley Maxwell; three brothers, Lester Jr., Tom, and Raleigh Maxwell; one step brother, Cecil Maxwell; and three sisters, Lucille Kempf, Verna Jordan, and Marguerite Hill. There is now a joyous reunion with them and church family members in the presence of the Lord. Billie Siglin was born in Oklahoma in 1925, and moved to California with her family in 1939, and settled in Merced in 1940. She attended Merced High School, and graduated in 1964 after taking night school classes to complete her education; however, she has always attended reunions with the class of 1944. She met William A. Siglin "Sig" in 1944 when he was serving in the Air Force. They married after a two- week courtship, on November 22, 1944. Billie worked as an airplane mechanic's helper at Eagle Field during World War II. She worked in various retail stores, Stancliff's Almond Ranch, Merced County Welfare Department, Victor Comptometer Forms Company, and BAC Pritchard. She served on the Election Board for many years, and was a volunteer for MCMC Hospital. Billie served the Lord in many areas, as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, working with the youth, faithful choir member and as a special prayer warrior and friend. She made many beautiful ceramic pieces, which she loved to give to her family and friends. She embroidered many projects which she lovingly gave to others. She was an avid bowler for many years, and a member of the Merced/Atwater 500 Club. She canned a variety of fruits and vegetables, and made the best jelly and pies around. All of which she readily gave to others. She never met a stranger, and before long they were her special friends. She loved to laugh, and her smile was never-ending. She will always be remembered by her friends and family as having a positive attitude and giving heart which was supported by her favorite verse of scripture: Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Billie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in- law, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone she knew and loved. Viewing will be held on Friday, April 27th, from noon to 8 p.m. at Stratford Evans Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 28th, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista, Merced, followed by interment at Evergreen Memorial Park, Merced.
