All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Simmons, Elizabeth SIMMONS, Elizabeth "Betty", Elizabeth Anne was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the only child of Anna Mary and Jacob Landis Denlinger. After graduation from McCaskey High School, Betty spent a short time during the War employed at the Rome Army Depot in New York. Upon returning to PA, Betty met and married Robert Myers Simmons of Marietta, PA. Bob remained her true and beloved husband for nearly 60 years until his passing April 4, 2004. Betty and Bob raised their children, Jim and Barbara in Hummelstown, PA. Bob's position at Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown, PA provided the family with the opportunity to relocate to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa in the late 1960's. At that time military activity in South East Asia resulted in major casualties being air lifted to Camp Kue Army Hospital in Okinawa. Betty became active in American Red Cross volunteer services helping the soldiers hospitalized at that facility. She devoted much of her time, her self, and her heart to those young men. During their stay in Okinawa, Betty and Bob began their long association with the Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge. After a few years in Okinawa they returned to Tinker Air Force Base, OK where Bob retired. In 1975 they began their life in the Arizona desert at Diamond Bell Ranch moving to Tucson in 1981. Betty and Bob both will always be loved and remembered for their committment to the Square and Compass Children's Clinic where Betty started the volunteer program. Betty's life in Tucson was filled with travel adventures, lasting friendships, and involvement with the Order of the Eastern Star Mariposa Chapter 31/Desert Star Chapter 54 and the Daughters of the Nile Olana Chapter. She also supported Bob with his Masonic activites and High Twelve. As members of the Rincon Congreational Church, Betty and Bob devoted much of their time to church activities. To all of you who traveled with us on this long, difficult journey, to all of you who loved and cared for our mother during this journey: may we all find peace, love, and happiness knowing that mother at last has found a place to rest at the end of this journey while she awaits the beginning of a much easier, pain-free journey reunited with our dad. A memorial service and celebration of mother's life will be held Saturday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m., at the Marion McDaniel Lodge, 3939 E. Mabel St. located two blocks north of Speedway, one block east off Alvernon. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice, volunteer your time to help someone, or perform a random act of kindness.
