Duncan Threlkeld, MD, went peacefully to join his Lord and Savior on March 29, 2003. The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and friends who gave him so much loving care during the past two years. He is a graduate of Edgemere, Harding, and Classen High School in Oklahoma City. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Oklahoma and his medical degree from Oklahoma University Medical School. While interning in Syracuse, NY, he met and married the love of his life, Jo Beth Kent, of Watertown, NY. Dr. Threlkeld served as a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps for the 15th Armored Cavalry. He participated in four battle campaigns, including the Normandy Invasion, helped set up the hospital that received our wounded soldiers from Germany, Holland, and France, and was awarded the Bronze Star by Gen. Patton. After the war, he returned to finish his internship in Boston where he completed his residency at Harvard School of Medicine. He then returned to OKC where he established his medical practice and was head of ObGyn Department at Mercy Hospital for many years. He was a life member of the Okla. County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the National Society for ObGyn. He and served the community until his retirement in 1988. During his retirement he was a valuable member of various Tumor Boards. He enjoyed golf, opera, classical music, and bridge. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Men's Dinner Club, Phi Gamma Delta, and the Okla. City Golf & Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Jo Beth; daughter Ann Lilly and husband Bob of Georgetown, TX; son Lal D. Threlkeld, Jr. and wife Linda of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Mary Jo Threlkeld and son Bruce Threlkeld both of Oklahoma City. Grandchildren are Mark Lilly and wife Tammy of Frisco, TX; Ashley Duncan Threlkeld McNelis and husband Sean McNelis of San Antonio, TX; and Lindsey Duncan Threlkeld of Huntsville, TX. Great-grandchildren are Anna Kate Lilly and John Mark Lilly of Frisco, TX. He is also survived by his sister Mary Threlkeld Harwell of Memphis, TN and numerous nieces and nephews, and the many generations of women who so fondly remember him and the thousands of babies delivered by him over the years. The Prayer Vigil will be held at Demuth Funeral Home, 1145 W. Britton Rd, on Tuesday evening, April 1 from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. On Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM, April 2, 2003, the funeral and reception will be at St. Eugene's Catholic Church 2400 W. Hefner Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess Hospital Foundation and St. Eugene's Catholic Church.
