Bill was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, in 1925. Shortly before his graduation ceremony from Duncan High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps. During World War II, Bill made four combat beach landings at Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. On Iwo Jima, he received the Presidential Unit Citation, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star. He loved the U. S. Marine Corps and its Marines. After his World War II service he attended Cameron College in Lawton, Oklahoma. He studied engineering and played on Cameron's Junior College National Championship football team. After two years at Cameron, Bill went to work for the Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company as a truck driver, a job he was very proud of. While working for HOWCO, Bill was recalled into the U. S. Marine Corps to serve during the Korean War. Bill attained the rank of Captain by the time of his discharge in 1951. He then attended and graduated with honors from the University of New Mexico. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. After graduation, Bill went to work for Halliburton Services as a field engineer in Farmington, New Mexico. At the time of his retirement in 1987, he held the office of Corporate Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services and was a director of Halliburton Company. He had previously served as President of Halliburton Services, President of IMCO Services Division, and CEO of the Welex Division of Halliburton. In 1976 Bill attended the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard University Business School. Bill served as a director of the University of New Mexico Foundation, and is a recipient of the distinguished Engineering School alumnus (1981) and the distinguished University of New Mexico alumnus (1989). He was formerly a director of the Cameron University Foundation in Lawton, Oklahoma, and the San Juan College Foundation in Farmington, New Mexico. In October 2004, Bill was awarded the distinguished alumnus award for Cameron University. He was also a member of the Duncan, Oklahoma, Public Schools Hall of Fame. Bill touched the lives of many. He was known by his family and friends as a man who loved and cared about people. He was always quick with a smile and left a trail of friends wherever he went. Bill always said yes when asked to help with education, or motivating young kids toward achievement. He faithfully attended Midland Bible Church and was an inspiration to many. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bill is survived by his wife, Tish of Midland, Texas, and her two sons, Doug and Kevin, his sister, Kay Frankie of Houston, Texas, his son, Steve of Houston, Texas, his son, Craig and his wife, Darla, of Midland, Texas, his daughter, Kim Rood and her husband, Denny, of Dallas, Texas, his daughter, Kellye Baugh and her husband, Chris, of Austin, Texas, and eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home Sunday, October 31, 2004 between the hours of 4:30 P.M. and 6:30 P.M. Memorial services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 1, 2004 at Midland Bible Church, 2800 N. 'A' Street, Midland, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the charity of one's choice.
