Wanda was born in Poplar Bluff, MO to Argalmus (Gay) and Lola Epsie Helvey Johnson. Her family moved to Oklahoma where she lived and worked most of her young years. Wanda worked as a professional dancer in Vaudeville (and briefly with the newly formed Rockettes) to help support her family during the Depression years. She met and married Gene Wade and worked at the Wade Theater in Dallas, TX until her husband Gene went to serve in WWII. After the war she moved to OKC where through the years she managed The Skirvin Hotel Coffee Shop, The Big House Super Club, The Oklahoma Club, and Glenn's Hickory Inn. Of course you could always see her smiling face on holidays (like New Years Eve) at Cattleman's Cafe'. Wanda volunteered as a candy striper at Baptist Hospital and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the sick and elderly. But, her biggest joy was her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous other family members. Wanda's kidneys began to fail in the early 90's and she spent 5 years on dialysis. Just 20 days after the death of her beloved husband, she received a kidney transplant which provided 8 years of quality life filled with lots of healthy, fun times with family and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, a grandson Frankie, 4 brothers and one sister. She is survived by daughters Barbara, Gennie and her husband Jerry, Kathy; Grandchildren Steve and his wife Theresa, Dena and her husband Rob, Kira, and Alan and his wife Hanna; Great-Grandchildren Steven Jr., Shane, Ben, Devon, Bethany, Ashley, and Bryce; sister Lola, sisters- in-law Bertha and Ida; Brother-in-law Percy and his wife Norma, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were very important to her, including (but certainly not limited to) Gay & Tony, Peggy and Leland, Pam and Bob, Teresa and Gregg, Clay, Charmayne and Doc.
