Wright, 69, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Bales, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Wright was born in Jayton and graduated from Spur High School. He graduated from West Texas State College where he was a member of the football team that won the 1951 Sun Bowl. A Navy veteran, he served in the Korean War. For 32 years, Mr. Wright coached football and taught at schools in Crosbyton, Spring Lake/Earth, Brownfield, Dimmitt, Hamlin, Mexia and for seven years at Canyon High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon, West Texas State College TClub, Lions Club and the Optimists Club. He married Dorothy Bradshaw in 1953 at Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Becky Noland of New Deal, Rhonda Bainum of Lubbock and Gina Wopperer of Amarillo; a son, Randy Wright of Amarillo; his mother and stepfather, Mary Lou and Bill Brown of Kingsland; a sister, Marilyn Ann Gillespie of Kingsland; and seven grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
