All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Belleville Memorial Gardens--Orangeburg SC Williams, Evelyn Murphy Evelyn Murphy Williams departed this life on Monday, August 18, 2003. Evelyn Williams was born to Julius Murphy and Ella Odom Murphy on May 6, 1936, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was baptized at Williams AME Chapel. She graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1956. Upon graduation she entered Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina where she began her studies as an Education major. While attending Claflin she pledged and became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. On December 23, 1957, she married Theodore Robinson Williams. Upon marriage, she accompanied her husband to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. For the next 22 years she supported her husband in his military career and gave birth to two daughters. During that period she went on to resume her studies in Education and earned a Bachelor of Education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1973, where she was inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. In 1975, she eamed her Masters of Science from the University of Nebraska's extension program m Lakenheath. England. In 1977, her husband was reassigned from his duties at RAF Mildenhall, England to Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, at which time she became a member of Tinker Air Force Base Chapel. Shortly thereafter, Evelyn began her career with Oklahoma City Public Schools. In 1979, she taught at Alternative Middle School which later became Gateway Academy. She served several years on the Social Studies Curriculum Committee for Oklahoma City Public Schools. Her gift for teaching earned her Gateway Teacher of the Year in 2001. She worked there until her retirement October 1, 2002. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings. Left behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband Theodore R. Williams, her daughters Yvonne T. Pace and Valerie J. Evans; her sons-in-law Lester C. Pace and Walter J. Evans; her grandchildren Bradford Charles Evans, Lesley Camille Pace, Melanie Yvonne Evans and Myles Devon Pace, two brothers, two sisters and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Williams on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Tinker Air Force Base Chapel at 1:00 p.m. under the direction of Temple & Sons Funeral Directors, Inc. Visitation - Wednesday Aug. 20th - 6pm - 9pm and Thursday Aug. 21st - 9am - 4pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 25th at Williams AME Chapel in Orangeburg, SC at 11 AM. Floral arrangements may be sent to Jenkins Funeral Home, 2396 Russell St., Orangeburg, SC. Interment is in Belleville Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg, SC.
