We run cattle in the pastures next to the road. The gate is unlocked and can be used any time. Please visit when you choose, but be sure to close both the pasture and cemetery gates." I recommend that you check with Mr. Homer Penequine to get permission to cross his property before going to the cemetery. Go through the gate and proceed west bound on the dirt road, you will be traveling through private property, please remember not to litter, and TO CLOSE THE GATES as you go through them. Follow the road approx. 0.32 tenths of a mile and you will come to the Coal Creek branch. Cross the creek and on the west bank, you will need to stop and open the gate that leads into the cemetery. You may park your vehicle just inside the cemetery. Some History of Coal Creek Cemetery: The Coal Creek cemetery is approximately a five-acre burial ground that was deeded by a local coal company to Frank Summers and Benjamin Clinton Furr years ago. It is used as a free burial ground and Coal Creek Cemetery is on land owned by Mr. Homer Penequine. Coal Creek cemetery is located near an old coal mine. The cemetery is grown up except around Memorial Day when the grass and weeds are bush hogged down. After years of neglect the grounds were being cleared with a bulldozer when they discovered they were in a cemetery. A lot of stones, were broken and destroyed, misplaced and moved from the original location of the graves during the clearing. Interesting note: There are some Furrs buried in Coal Creek Cemetery. Henryetta was formerly known as FURRS. In 1900 Furrs name was changed to Henryetta. Note: The cemetery is listed in alphabetical order because of the damaged, misplaced and some headstones moved from original location. The initials are reflected as to what is on the sandstone's. A.
