LYONS OCNS - February 19, 2002 - Mr. Austin J. Lyons, 91, a resident of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, for the last thirty years, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2002, in a Tulsa hospital. He was born June 23, 1910, in Opelousas, Louisiana, the son of Henry and Mary (Goubert) Lyons and attended school in the Tolon community, west of Beggs, Oklahoma. Mr. Lyons was a member of the Uganda Martyr's Catholic Church where he was a member of the Legion of Mary. He served his Country in the United States Navy where he was a chef and later was a construction worker before his retirement. Survivors include: A brother, Willie Lyons, San Diego, California; four sisters, Alesa Johnson, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cecelia Wilson and Mable Carr, both of Okmulgee, and Pearl Carter of San Diego; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 25, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., in the Uganda Martyr's Catholic Church with Father Amalor Vima as the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Beggs City Cemetery, Beggs, Oklahoma, with arrangements under the direction of Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc, of Okmulgee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.. A prayer vigil will be held Sunday at 6:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Peace at the Biglow Funeral Home.
