He was born Monday, September 25, 1939 to Roman and Vernia (Grayson) Checotah in Preston, Oklahoma. On September 15, 1966, he married Etta Starr in Okmulgee and served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church in Okmulgee and a member of the Glass Workers Union while employed at Ball Brothers. He retired from the Ball Glass Company and enjoyed his family and had a love of fishing. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Carolyn Sue Checotah in 1969; his parents and a half brother: Charles Chance. Survivors include: wife: Etta Checotah of the home; one son: Daniel R. Checotah of Okmulgee; four daughters: Angela Checotah of Checotah; Lisa Checotah-Arnold and husband, Brian of Okmulgee; Tammy L. Checotah and Jerry Wittman of Okmulgee; Pamela S. Checotah of Henryetta; two brothers: Johnny Checotah and wife, Jeri of Oklahoma City and Roman Checotah and wife, Janelle of El Reno; five sisters: Georgia Stotts of Ponca City; Yvonne McComb and husband, Steve of Rankin, TX; Nancy Elmore and husband, Robert of El Cajon, CA; Linda Walters and husband, Allan of Morris and Vickie Checotah of Tulsa; thirteen grandchildren. Viewing will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kelley Chapel. Wake Services will be held Sunday, November 13th at the Kelley Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Church Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Belvin Baptist Church in Okmulgee with Reverend Randy Colbert and Reverend Bridge Chuckluck officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Johnny Checotah, Roman Checotah, Wendell Chance, Chris Wilkinson, Ricky Wilkinson and Kevin Chance. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian Arnold, Jerry Wittman, Danny Checotah, Eric Checotah, Keith Jackson, Homer Parker and Brandon Berryhill. Military Honors will be provided by the Creek Nation Honor Guard and the Naval Reserve Command.
